Rangers Farm Report: Games of Sunday 27 May Box Scores
AAA: Round Rock 8, at Omaha (KAN) 3 Record: 21-30, 10 GB
SP Yovani Gallrdo: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 9 SO, 4.54 ERA
RP Connor Sadzeck: 1 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 4.67 ERA
RF Scott Heineman: 3-5
1B Tommy Joseph: 2-5, HR (10)
3B Andy Ibanez: 3-5
C Cameron Rupp: 2-3, 2 walks
The Express turned out 17 hits. Willie Calhoun was removed after grounding out in the 1st. (There were no dugout hugs, to my knowledge.) We'll see if he's in the lineup tonight.
2010 10th-round lefty Jimmy Reyes spent eight years in the system, including four in AAA. Then, he walked away and
doesn't regret it.
AA: Frisco 2, at Arkansas (SEA) 6 Record: 16-34, 14.5 GB
SP Wes Benjamin: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 SO, 3.49 ERA
RF Corelle Prime: 1-2, HR (5)
Corelle Prime homered after replacing the ejected Juremi Profar. Adam Parks stranded two Wes Benjamin runners but later allowed three runs of his own.
High-A: at Down East 11, Frederick (BAL) 4 Record: 29-21, +1 G
SP Emerson Martinez: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 3 SO, 4.44 ERA
SS Anderson Tejeda: 4-5, double, 2 HR (8)
1B Josh Altmann: 2-4, HR (7)
DH Andretty Cordero: 2-3, 2 HBP
In the last two games, Anderson Tejeda has three two-run homers, a double, a single and walk. Tommy Joseph's recent success has given him the organization lead with ten homers, while Tejeda and teammate Chuck Leblanc have eight. Tejeda has several possible outcomes. Potentially, the bat and glove develop enough that he becomes a starting MLB middle infielder. He might develop enough bat to carry him as a lesser defensive position. And he might become a role player (including MIF) lacking the OBP to play regularly. Tejeda just turned 20, and Texas doesn't have a 40 decision on him this year.
Low-A: at Hickory 4, Charleston (NYY) 1 Low-A: at Hickory 7, Charleston (NYY) 4 Record: 17-28, 13 GB
SP1 Tyler Phillips: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 7 SO, 3.06 ERA
SP2 Derek Heffel: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 SO, 5.54 ERA
2B/SS Ryan Dorow: 3-7, 2 HR (6)
C Yohel Pozo: 2-3, walk
3B Clayton Middleton: 2-2, HR (1)
C/DH Sam Huff: 3-5, HBP
Tyler Phillips allowed an uncharacteristic four runs but was generally in form. Two two-out hits in the 2nd plated two runs, and the others scored on a passed ball and wild pitch. Phillips hasn't walked a batter in five of nine starts.
2017 30th-round infielder Ryan Dorow hit a solo shot in the opener and grand slam in the nightcap.
Yohel Pozo has more walks in May (9 in 18 games) than in 2017 (8 in 54 games). Sam Huff is hitting .317/.371/.540 this month.
Five Years Ago Yesterday Round Rock CF Engel Beltre was 2-5 wityh his 14th double and 11th steal. With teo HBPs and a walk, Rougned Odor improved to .281/.359/.449 in Myrtle Beach.
Richard Bleier, accomplished Major Leaguer. I wasn't writing much about Bleier in 2013. By then, he was a 26-year-old long reliever lacking a noteworthy pitch and whiffing fewer than five batters per nine innings. Bleier attributes his success to a cutter developed in 2016 to augment his sinking fastball.
Today's Starters: AAA: Tyler Wagner
AA: off
High-A: Edgar Arredondo
Low-A: Tyree Thompson
