The Farm Report -- 5/6/2018

Tim Lincecum will begin an assignment in Round Rock on Monday. Lincecum is on the 60-day DL and can't return to Arlington until nearly the end of May.

Rangers Farm Report: Games of Saturday 5 May
Box Scores

AAA: at Round Rock 3, Iowa (CHC) 7
Record: 11-19, 8 GB

SP David Ledbetter: 7 IP, 6 H (1 HR), 4 R, 1 BB, 7 SO, 5.24 ERA
LF Willie Calhoun: 3-4, double, walk
CF Scott Heineman: 1-4, walk

Scott Heineman has started four of the last five games in center and played part of the other one there after a mid-game defensive switch. He and Jose Cardona have been frequent teammates over the last two-plus seasons, and in that time, Heineman has started in center only 19% of the time (because Cardona is the better fielder). Perhaps this recent stretch in CF indicates Texas's increased interest in what Heineman can offer there.

Nice of Willie Calhoun to collect his second three-hit game immediately after I suggested he'd heat up soon.

AA: at Frisco 2, Midland (LAA) 4
Record: 6-23, 12.5 GB

SP Richelson Pena: 5 IP, 9 H (1 HR), 4 R, 1 BB, 4 SO, 4.21 ERA
RP Reed Garrett: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO, 4.50 ERA

Rougned Odor was 0-3 with a walk in a rehab outing.

High-A: Down East 3, at Carolina (MIL) 4 (10)
Record: 14-15, 4 GB

SP Walker Weickel: 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 3 SO, 5.40 ERA
RP Locke St. John: 1.1 IP, 1 R, 3 SO, 1.74 ERA
2B Brendon Davis: 2-4
1B Andretty Cordero: 2-4, double, HR (3)

Locke St. John replaced Jake Lemoine in the 9th with the score tied, the bases loaded and one out. St. John struck out two straight to push the contest to extras. In the 10th, Down East couldn't score after putting runners at second and third with none out (that sounds familiar), and the Mudcats won on a wild pitch that brought home a runner from third.

St. John has struck out 18 in 10.1 innings. Texas swiped him in last December's minor league Rule 5 draft.

Low-A: rain

Two today.

Five Years Ago Yesterday
Strange: the high-A club lost on a walk-off and the low-A club was rained out. Myrtle Beach's Jerad Eickoff gave up two runs in six innings.

Today's Starters:
AAA: Yovani Gallardo
AA: Ariel Jurado
High-A: Christian Torres
Low-A: Casanova / TBD
