Update.

My first story behind the paywall for The Athletic rolls out in the morning, titled “Bartolo Colón, and what might have been.”

The story, as most if not all of my entries going forward will, is followed by a stack of quick-hit notes — sort of a mini-TROT COFFEY — called “Exit Velo.”

A whole bunch of you have subscribed to The Athletic over the last couple weeks, and we thank you for that. If you’re still considering it (it was announced this morning, by the way, that the great Jayson Stark is joining Ken Rosenthal and Peter Gammons on The Athletic’s national MLB coverage), Newberg Report readers still have until Monday (February 19th) to get a special discounted rate — 25% off plus a free Athletic Dallas T-shirt — by clicking here: TheAthletic.com/NewbergReport.

For what it's worth, I couldn’t be more fired up about the next story I’m working on. I was pumped about the idea, but after a couple conversations for background with some of the folks that the story is about, well, I am looking forward to the effort to pull that one together.

In the meantime: Pitchers & Catchers, in one sleep.

Here we go.

He makes a swell margarita and refuses to run longer than ten kilometres.
