Record: 30-38, 10 GB
Video Recap

SP Ariel Jurado: 4 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 4 SO, 4.23 ERA

The Riders managed four hits in eight innings against Kyle Lloyd, who no-hit them last month.  The grounder-inducing Jurado's ball-in-play ratio was terribly askew: just four grounders, five flies, nine line drives and a popout.

High-A: at Down East 2, Myrtle Beach (CHC) 4 (10)
Record: 24-44, 17.5 GB

SP Jeffrey Springs: 9 IP, 6 H (1 HR), 2 R, 3 BB, 7 SO, 4.75 ERA
2B Brallan Perez: 1-4, double, walk

A tough break for Jeffrey Springs, who tossed nine innings on just 100 pitches.  The division-winning Pelicans scored twice in the 10th off Tyler Ferguson, who has resumed his adventuresome ways in high-A after a solid low-A stretch.  Ferguson has walked an acceptable three of 29 batters but is still struggling with his control, and opponents are hitting .385/.448/1.000.

Low-A: Hickory 1, at Lakewood (PHI) 2 (10)
Record: 27-42, 12 GB

SP Kyle Cody: 8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 SO, 3.92 ERA
DH Carlos Garay: 2-3, walk

Another tough break.  Kyle Cody filled the zone, throwing 71 of 96 pitches for strikes in a career-high eight innings.  A 2nd-inning double, 4th-inning walk and two  strikeout/WPs accounted for his only baserunners.  Both runners reaching on wild pitches were immediately erased on double plays.  Nick Dignacco gave up a game-tying triple in the 9th, and Kaleb Fontenot allowed three singles in the 10th, the last one ending the game.

Leody Taveras (1-3) stole his 10th base.

Short-A: at Spokane 3,Boise (COL) 2
Record: 1-1, 0.5 GB

SP Tyler Phillips: 5.1 IP, 7 H (HR), 2 R, 1 BB, 3 SO, 3.38 ERA
RP Joe Barlow: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 SO, 0.00 ERA
RP Ronny Carvajal: 2 IP, 0 R, 2 SO, 0.00 ERA
SS Cristian Inoa: 1-3, double, walk
2B Kole Enright: 1-3, triple, walk, SB (1)
RF Austin O'Banion: 1-2, HR (1), walk

A resilient Spokane twice lost one-run leads and maintained a third slender advantage over the final three innings.  The 19-year-old Phillips is back in Spokane after a few starts in Hickory earlier this season.  Ronny Carvajal signed the same year as Jairo Beras but converted from the outfield the mound two years ago.

2016 3rd-round IF Kole Enright spent most of last year at third base, with less time at short and a few games at second.  This year, Spokane conspicuously listed him at second base, and that's where he's played.  Charles Leblanc, drafted one round later, is manning third, while the 17-year-old Cristian Inoa handles short.  O'Banion is last year's 37th-rounder from Fullerton College (a JuCo, not Cal State).

Five Years Ago Yesterday
Connor Sadzeck made his professional debut in Spokane, allowing one hit, three walks and a run in four innings.  4th-round righty Alec Asher debuted with a spotless 9th inning.  Kevin Matthews made his full season debut.  I'm sure you won't mind if I gloss over that particular aspect of Rangers history.

Today's Starters:
AAA: Eddie Gamboa
AA: Pedro Payano
High-A: Jacob Shortslef
Low-A: Mike Matuella
Short-A: Alex Speas
