Twelve’s night.

I finished yesterday’s report this way:

If the Rangers manage for the second straight night to hold the Astros’ beast lineup to as many runs plus hits as there are draft rounds — eight on this day rather than three — you won’t get a complaint out of me.

Well, they narrowly missed — Houston managed two runs on seven hits, one more in sum than the eight rounds in which Texas selected amateur players on Tuesday — and so I guess I’m entitled, if not compelled, to come up with some sort of complaint.

So I’ll reach back 45 days to Astros sophomore Alex Bregman’s sophomoric tweet — “Opperation #BTSOOTR” — and complain about the apparently watered-down quality of an LSU education, at least in the spelling department, but maybe “Opperation” is a word wholly unfamiliar to me that Bregman has pinpoint command of, and maybe he’s actually a next-level thinker who’s just toying with the rest of us, and, now that I think of it, maybe “Opperation” is actually a Bregman portmanteau blending the beautiful baseball concept of “oppo” with “operation” and maybe the actual meaning all along of #BTSOOTR was “Beat the snot out of them, Rougie” — and it was the least Odor could do to oblige the man.

If only Bregman hadn’t managed to leg out that ultimately inconsequential infield single in the eighth, minutes after Rougie’s second bomb of the night, this one decisive, Houston would’ve had just eight runs-plus-hits rather than nine, and, mercifully, you would have gotten not one complaint out of me.
