The Farm Report -- 5/22/2014

Rangers Farm Report: Games of Wednesday 21 May

Stars of the Day
AAA: Brad Snyder
AA: Edwar Cabrera / Pat Cantwell
Hi-A: Andrew Faulkner / Christopher Bostick, David Lyon, Preston Beck

AAA: at Round Rock 2, Iowa (CHC) 6
Record: 23-22, -2.0

Nefatli Feliz pitched two innings marred by a solo homer from top prospect Javier Baez.  He allowed one other hit and struck out two.

Round Rock scored its runs on the 12th homer from Brad Snyder, who hit the walk-off the previous day.  Starter Ryan Feierabend (4.37 ERA) gave up five runs and three homers in six innings.

AA: at Frisco 2, Tulsa (COL) 1
Record: 27-18, +2.0

Catcher Pat Cantwell's first homer broke a 1-1 tie in the 8th.  Cantwell has professional-grade catching tools but is struggling to meet the challenge of AA pitchers (.188/.256/.250).

Changeup specialist Edwar Cabrera (3.38 ERA) doesn't throw hard but threw strikes and kept the Drillers off balance.  Cabrera lasted a season-high seven innings, walked none, struck out four and allowed a run on seven hits.

High-A: Myrtle Beach 4, at Frederick (BAL) 5
Record: 28-16, +4.5

Joey Gallo was pulled after not sliding on what appeared to be a steal attempt.  I'm not sure if he left because of injury of some other reason, and I'm not going to speculate.  He did not play in today's early game.  My advice is not to worry.

The Pelicans scored on two-run homers by catcher David Lyon (3) and 2B Christopher Bostick (6).  Both also walked.  1B Preston Beck walked twice and singled.

Frederick scored three against Will Lamb (4.09 ERA) in the 6th to take a 4-2 lead.  Starter Andrew Faulkner (2.68 ERA) struck out a career-high nine in just five innings, allowing a run on three hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Low-A: off

Texas DL'ed starting pitcher Frank Lopez and replaced him with both RHP Jose Monegro (from Round Rock) and 29-year-old knuckleballer Kevin Pucetas.

Five Years Ago Yesterday
18-year-old shortstop Leury Garcia singled and walked in his full-season debut. Texas concurrently demoted 1B Clark Murphy, a 2008 fifth-rounder who never came close to producing in three attempts at low-A.  Murphy is with the Florence Freedom of the independent Frontier League.

Today's Starters
AAA: Daniel McCutchen
AA: Jerad Eickhoff
Hi-A: Victor Payano
Lo-A: Tyler Smith
