Rangers Farm Report: Games of 4/30

Cribbing from Frisco announcer Alex Vispoli because my time is short:
RHP Jake Brigham promoted to Triple-A Round Rock
IF Alex Buchholz promoted to Triple-A Round Rock
LHP Ryan Feierabend promoted to Triple-A Round Rock
RHP Phil Klein received from Advanced-A Myrtle Beach
RHP Jose Mavare received from Advanced-A Myrtle Beach

As you might have heard by now, Round Rock 3B Mike Olt is out with vision problems.  So, if you're the glass-half-full type, Olt was hitting .139 despite poor vision.

Stars of the Day
AAA: Evan Meek / Chris McGuiness
AA: Carlos Pimentel / Hanser Alberto
Hi-A: Jerad Eickhoff / Drew Robinson

AAA: Round Rock 2, at Iowa (CHC) 7
Record:  14-12, -1.5

Collin Balester (7.33 ERA) gave up six runs in 3.2 innings.  Evan Meek tossed 2.1 scoreless with two strikeouts.  Chris McGuiness (.228/.351/.481) hit his fifth homer and singled.

RHP Randy Wells abruptly retired.  The native of Belleville, Illinois (home of Buddy Ebsen and alt-county titans Uncle Tupelo) was the 1,143rd pick of the 2002 draft and pitched 529 MLB innings.  Well done.

AA: at Frisco 4, San Antonio (SDG) 3
Record: 14-11, tied for 1st

Carlos Pimentel (2.70 ERA) was mortal, walking two and allowing a homer in six innings.  Still, he surrendered only two runs and fanned five.  Jake Brigham struck out the side around two walks (one intentional) and a double for a dramatic save.  He maintained his spotless ERA.

Hanser Alberto (.298/.307/.357) was 3-4.  He has 12 hits in his last seven games.

High-A (1): Myrtle Beach 5, at Frederick 1 (BAL) (9 innings)
High-A (2): Myrtle Beach 2, at Frederick 8 (BAL) (7 innings)
Record: 15-10, +2.0

Drew Robinson (.200/.300/.300) was 2-3 with a double and walk in the opener.  He was batting .100 a few days ago.  Rougned Odor (.286/.351/.500) singled twice in the front end and doubled in the nightcap.

Jerad Eickhoff (4.44 ERA) tossed seven innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts in Game 1, and Randol Rojas (5.14 ERA) added two innings with three strikeouts. Game 2 starter Joe Van Meter (2.77 ERA) gave up four runs (one earned) in three innings.

Low-A: off

Five Years Ago Yesterday
When Bakersfield's Zach Phillips last pitched, eleven consecutive hitters reached safely and he couldn’t finish the 1st.  On Wednesday, he didn’t allow a hit until the 6th.  Phillips tossed seven shutout innings with two hits, three walks, and six strikeouts.  Julio Borbon doubled twice in four at-bats.  Oklahoma's AJ Murray pitched one inning in anticipation of an upcoming MLB start.  Nate Gold (.235/.370/.481) and Kevin Richardson (.300/.378/.567) hit three-run blasts.

Jamey Newberg

Scott Lucas

Scott Lucas was born in Arlington, Texas, to Richard and Becky Lucas. He lived mostly in Arlington before moving to Austin, where he graduated from The University of Texas. Scott works for Austin Valuation Consultants, Ltd., and has published several boring articles about real estate appraisal and environmental contamination. He makes a swell margarita and refuses to run longer than ten kilometres.

Eleanor Czajka

Eleanor grew up watching the AAA Mudhens in Toledo, Ohio. A loyal Ranger fan since 1979, she works "behind the scenes" at the Newberg Report.
