The Farm Report -- 9/12/2012

In a few days, Texas will commence its Fall Instructional League consisting of workouts and a 15-game schedule.  There's also an 18-game Advanced Instructional League.  Think of it as extended Extended Spring Training.  Here's the roster delineated by where everyone finished the 2012 regular season:

Stars of the Day:
AA: Cody Buckel, Neil Ramirez / Tommy Mendonca

AA: Frisco 0, at Springfield 5
Frisco trails best-of-five finals 0-1

Frisco held Springfield to just five hits, but three left the premises.  In six innings plus one batter, Cody Buckel walked none, struck out five, and allowed two singles and two solo homers.

A messy 7th sealed Frisco's fate.  Tim Murphy whiffed one batter and struck out the second, after which Ryan Rodebaugh issued a walk and surrendered a three-run shot to DH Mike O'Neill, a good contact hitter with one career homer entering the game.  Making his first playoff appearance, Neil Ramirez fanned two (including top prospect Oscar Taveras) after a leadoff walk.

Frisco also managed five hits including a double and single by 3B Tommy Mendonca.  Springfield limited the Riders to two runners after the 4th.  Carlos Martinez struck out seven in seven innings.

Rehabbing Mike Napoli grounded to second, struck out swinging and was hit by a pitch in three plate appearances.  He caught seven innings without incident.

Five Years Ago Today

The season was over; I'd signed off the day before.  A solo homer by Chad Tracy was low-A Clinton's only run in a two-and-out semifinal against Beloit.  Spot-starter Jared Hyatt pitched four quality innings after not facing more than ten batters in a game all season.  In his final appearance of 2007, Kasey Kiker shut out the Snappers for 5.2 innings and fanned six.
