Bush makes the staff.

It's likely that we don't see the Rangers' Opening Day roster finalized until Thursday, but this much we know: Dave Bush will be on the pitching staff. The veteran righthander had an out clause in the minor league contract he signed in January that permitted him to take free agency and seek employment with another club if he wasn't on the 40-man roster yesterday.

Relegated earlier this month to back field innings as more likely big league candidates got stretched out in "A" games, Bush's opportunities took on added importance as various pitchers ahead of him in the pecking order endangered their own chances by pitching ineffectively, or not at all.

The Rangers told Bush Sunday that they will put him on the roster this week, likely assigning him the long relief role. His contract reportedly has a $1 million base with another $1 million in workload incentives.

Texas plays in Scottsdale today, in Myrtle Beach tomorrow (with Alexi Ogando getting the start against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers), and in Round Rock on Wednesday before returning to Arlington in preparation for Friday's opener against Boston.
